Emily Skoglund and Matthew Chappell's rehearsal dinner at Jack's Waterfront Bar in Morehead City, North Carolina was the epitome of effortless coastal class, reflecting their love for all things involving saltwater. Arriving on their family's offshore boat, the Job Site, the couple and their vibrantly dressed wedding party secured the lines and made their way upstairs to their rooftop celebration overlooking the channel. Between cocktail hour and dinner, Emily and Matthew slipped away for a few romantic moments in the golden light and exchanged a gift, a portrait Emily painted of Matthew's beloved family dog who passed earlier this year. As the sun continued to set, a family friend flew over in his red airplane to say hello to the couple and later joined the party. Local seafood was served to guests wearing breezy dresses in classic beach house hues and seashell toned linen suits, followed by a golf themed chocolate cake that Matthew undoubtedly picked out. After dinner, there were nearly a dozen toasts to commemorate the couple's love story that began right there on the Bogue sound. They met years ago at a nearby summer camp, fell in love with the sea and each other, got engaged on a sandbar, and married under mossy live oak trees on the waters edge - all within the same few miles of coastline. They could not have planned a more fitting event to welcome their guests and celebrate their union. As Emily's grandmother so beautifully said in her speech, "The sailor has found his mermaid."
